| Linda Clark portrays
"Hardluck Lin", a spinner of yarns, a teller of tales, and a
keeper of the history of the California Gold Rush Mother
Lode. |

| Perhaps
the best narrative account of a live presentation to date,
was written by Dave Lee, for "The Union Democrat"
in an article published in late 2007. Below are a few
excerpts from that article and a link to the full story. |

| When
asked why the strange name, Hardluck is quick to reply, "Ain't
nothin' wrong with that name. Miners give it to me, ya see,
and it jest means I keep right on trying, no matter what
comes my way. Anyway, HARD luck is better than NO luck and a
whole sight better than BAD luck." |

 |
"Hard Luck" described the
era's raw conditions, requiring a lifestyle of labor,
determination, and utility.*
These are the values Hardluck Lin teaches to the students,
and through her many authentic stories of the Mother Lode's
past she turns ears into eyes. Kids remember the history,
because Clark inserts them into historic scenes...* |
